This is not your everyday barnyard rooster. Far from it. This guy is the result of over 50 years of selective breeding.

So what makes his feathers so special? Barb density and stiffness, feather symatry, and stem shape, are just a few criteria that are used to judge whether or not his genes will find their way into future generations.

It's not surprising that it took over 50 years of intensive selection preasure to reach this level of perfection.

T.U. Starter Kit

Many Trout Unlimited clubs offer fly tying classes for beginners just starting out.

Years ago I took those classes and besides learning a lot, had a great time.

Back then a size 12 seem tiny, and finding good hackle at an affordable price was impossible. I couldn't afford a $60 neck.

I'm offering these 1/2 capes at an affordable price so that beginers have a chance to learn with the best dry fly hackle on the market.

Grizzly and brown are the colors most called for in dry fly patterns, followed by dun, then black, and cream.

And if you're just getting started, start with capes. They have hook sizes ranging from 10's to 20's and tailing fibers on the outer edge.

Many people ask "what is the best feather to use for tying wings on my dry flies?"

Years ago, tyers were able to use hen necks. However, with hackle growers breeding for smaller and smaller hackle sizes, today these feathers are too narrow and "dry-fly" like.

Well, here is a feather that works well; nice barring, web right up to the edge, and nice round tips - all making for the perfect siloette on the water.
