Metz Feather Merchants
One of the oldest hackle lines, Metz has both a dry fly line and a streamer line, the Magnum
The dry fly line is available in grades 1 to 3. The hen is sought after for its nice soft fibers and clean barring.
If your a fresh water streamer guy, you won't find better than the Magnum. The barring is beautifl and the shape is perfect.
So take a look at the colors and quality!
The best barring in the industry!
Just look at that Barring... Amazing!!!
There is a lot of history in this line. Dating back to Buck Metz, his parents ran a poultry farm back east. Buck got his start there and before long he was in the hackle business.
Unlike Henry Hoffman, Buck raised standard fowl birds. These large beautiful birds produced some amazing hackle. For those of you old enough, Metz was all the rage in the '70's.
Time passed and Umpqua bought the line. Mr. Rick Dailey took over and worked his magic. Buck had been having problems with the stems. Too stiff. Rick cleaned that up and once again Metz was on the map. He added a Magnum line and today it is still closest feather you'll find for tying Carrie Steven patterns.
Dry Fly Line
The barbs on these roosters are stiff, the stems are flexible and palmer well. The barb density is good and the biggest attraction these days is that you can still tie larger sizes from the capes.
The hens are soft, nice for soft hackle patterns or wingers on your dry flies. The have web and the tips are not as sharp. Lots of colors, take a look!
