Streamer Hackle
Here are streamer feathers from three different hackle growers. Sure they are wide and webby, but as you can see, the feathers are all very different. So which feather is better for tying streamers?
I've met tiers who insist on only using Ewing, others swear by Metz. They say the feathers are longer and the barring is tighter and more clear.
Whiting has always been a favorite with saltwater tiers. The stem is stiff, the feathers at the bottom of the cape are longer and wider, and they are available in a wide range of bright colors.
So which feather do you like better?
Feathers for tying Streamers
There are more feathers listed on this page than any other. I've tried to cover all the basics and then some. From wings to shoulders, throats, bellies, and cheeks - you'll find feathers for them all here.
This page opens with a selection of Streamer Capes offered from the major growers. As you can clearly see in the photo above, each has it's own unique shape and barring. Most are available in colors dyed on both white and grizzly. One of my favorite feathers for streamer wings is from the Coq de Leon.
Click on the next tab and you'll find every possible feather you can imagine for sides. From waterfowl to guinea, it's all there. Some of these same feathers can be used as throats and bellies. And probably the most recognized feather on a streamer, Junglecock, you'll find under the Cheeks tab.
