Whiting Brahma Hen Hackle
The feathers on the saddle of a brahma hen have a distinct mottled pattern that closely resembes that of a partridge.
The capes lack the mottling, they have a solid badger pattern. When dyed burnt orange, they closely resemble claws for crayfish patterns.
The hotest item however, is chic-a-bou. These fine marabou-like feathers are perfect for small woolly buggers, emergers, and other soft hackle patterns
Cape, Soft hackle/chic-a-bou, and Saddle feather
These mottled feathers are quickly becoming the tyer's choise for nymph and woolly bugger patterns. Besides having a beautiful grousey mottled pattern, the nicest thing about tying with these feathers is that the feather stem is long, giving you 3 to 4 wraps.
The main complaint I hear about partridge feathers is that the stem is so short on the smaller sizes that it is almost impossible to use them.
