Temminck's Tragopan

The display of a temminck's male is a marvel of nature. Crouched behind a fallen log, out of sight of nearby female, he bobbs up and down, making a clicking sound. With each bobb, his red and blue lappet grows larger. Suddenly, with an intense hissing noise, he fires up over the log.... right towards the hen.

Tying with Temminck's Tragopan

Not quite as popular as the Satyr, the Temminck’s still gives the creative tyer many opportunities for using these feathers for wings, sides, cheeks, tails and throats. Steelhead and streamer tiers will find many uses for the grey breast feathers.

Full Skin

Most notable on this skin is the color. This is a 5 year old male in full feather. The skin is in near perfect shape, the only flaw I can find is some fraying on the tips of the tail.

Full Skin - Juvenile Plumage

Temminck's males don't color out until their second year. This is true of many pheasant breeds. This is a first year bird and as you can see, it has a certain attraction all its own.

Hen Skin

Temminck's hens tend to vary quite a bit in color. They range from fawn to mahogany. This is more rusty, resembling the hen in the picture on the right.
