Malay Peacock Pheasant
"Decades will pass before the last bird will be driven from it's haunts. It's guarden so well by a myriad of tropical terrors, this bird will exist, sulking about in the undergrowth". So said W. Beebe, assulted by leaches as he pursued studing these birds. Socks soaked with blood, he proclaimed these indeed were the true blood pheasants.
Polyplectron malacense
Tying with Malay Peacock Pheasant
Introduced and popularized by Paul Schmookler for his Double Leopard salmon fly, these feathers have a light field punctuated with dark spots.
The green eyes offer a striking look to a salmon fly and to craft projects. These feathers may be used in the same way as other peacock pheasants.
The body feathers have some interesting patterns and colors. The feathers on the nape and crest have a brilliant purple cast unlike any other peacock pheasant species.
