Java Green Peafowl

These long-legged, tall-crested birds inhabit the densest thorn and bush undergrowth of evergreen forests.

In the early mornings, groups are found on the banks of small clear rivers drinking and preening. Termites are a favorite and days are often spent feeding near large colonies of termite mounds. After returning to the river in the late afternoon, they gather in small groups to roost in the tallest dead trees deep in the jungle forest.

Tying with Java Green Feathers

Noticably longer legged than the India Blue, the Java Green has a pronounced green hue. Parallel uses make most of the feathers from this bird interchangeable with the Blue. However, the crest feathers are vastly different offering the creative tier or crafter more options.

Gone is the bright blue breast being replaced by “scaled” feathers that have a dark blue center with greenish coppery fringes getting larger toward the abdomen.

The eyed feathers of the train are different too, being smaller, finely fibered and different coloration. A beautiful artistic salmon fly is the Green Mansions by Paul Schmookler in Rare And Unusual Vol. 1.

Gone too are the speckled shoulders, replaced with dark feathers tinged with blue-green. Crafters and jewelry makers will find new and exciting uses for these feathers.

Neck Feathers

These feathers range quite a bit in size, from the tiny ones close to the head to the larger ones near the body. They are certainly a stunning feather.

Transition Feathers

If you ask me, these are the nicest feathers on the bird. Found just where the neck meets the body, there are not that many prime ones on each bird.

Half Moon Feathers

Not only is the color of these feathers different than those found on an Indian Blue, if you look closely, the shape is much different too.
